Road trip safety is a big deal whether you’re driving cross-country with your buddies all summer or driving your family a few hours to your favorite vacation spot. Being prepared and following these tips is the best way to keep your road trip from turning into a bust.
Road Trip Safety Tips for Your Car
Before you leave, have your car inspected and stock it up with emergency items like a spare tire, tools, and a first aid kit. Make sure you have plenty of non-perishable snacks like granola bars along with water and a change of clothes. Since it’s summer, it’s a good idea to pack something that will cool you off, like a battery-powered fan.
Road Trip Safety Tips for Yourself
Try not to take long trips alone unless you have to, and make your companions take a few legs of the drive. Being well-rested is essential on long drives, so get a good night sleep the night before and take breaks every few hours.
Drive cautiously, and do what you can to avoid heavy traffic areas during busy times. Not only is this a more dangerous time to drive, but it will frustrate you and add time to your trip!

Warmer weather means that there will be more pedestrians, more animals, and more bicyclists on the road. Sharing the road with bikes can be dangerous, especially if you do not know how to handle the situation. Driving alongside bicyclists is easy, as long as you take the necessary precautions.
Be Careful When Driving Alongside Bicyclists
According to Edmunds, one of the biggest dangers is that drivers often fail to understand a bike rider’s vulnerability. For example, a bike tends to be four thousand pounds lighter than the average car in the US. Plus, our brains often fail to recognize that bikes are smaller than cars; this can lead to driver’s cutting off bicyclists that they don’t see, or it can cause them to tailgate closer than intended. Always leave a little extra room for bikes.
Turning right is also dangerous when there are bikes on the road. An added blind spot you will have is behind you and to the right. If a bike decides to go straight as you turn right, a collision could occur. Always check this blind spot when turning.
Finally, many drivers need to adjust their attitudes towards bicyclists. As long as riders are over the age of 10, they are considered vehicles. That means they have to ride on the road, and they must obey traffic laws. Treat bikes as equals on the road, and be sure to have patience.
The new Chevrolet Sonic has been revealed, driving auto enthusiasts everywhere wild. This new eco-friendly model comes with a sleek compact design, fuel-efficient powertrain, and the latest technologies. The 2017 Sonic design is bound to put a smile on any driver’s face.
2017 Sonic Design Features
According to Chevy, the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic will come with updated styling, including a more athletic exterior and added details. A new hood, new front fascia, projector-beam headlights, available LED Daytime Running Lights, and available 17-inch aluminum wheel designs are just the tip of the iceberg. New exterior colors also include Orange Burst Metallic, Brimstone, Cajun Red Tintcoat, and Artic Blue Metallic.
“The new styling and features of the 2017 Sonic reinforce its position as a fun, efficient small car with leading technology—all at an affordable price,” said Steve Majoros, director of marketing for Chevrolet cars and crossovers. “This is an important segment for Chevrolet, as we really have an opportunity to introduce ourselves to new buyers and show them what we’re all about.”
Other new features will include Keyless Open and Start, available heated cloth seating, a heated steering wheel, RS trim and logos, and more. A 7-inch diagonal infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 4G LTE are also great for those that love the latest tech features.
Four Chevrolet vehicles have been ranked highest in their segments in the 2016 J. D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, proving once again that when customers look for a vehicle they can truly count on, they ought to pick Chevrolet.
2016 J. D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study Chevrolet Winners
For the fourth year in a row, the Camaro was named the most dependable Midsize Sporty Car. And for the second consecutive year, the Malibu and the Silverado were named most dependable in the Midsize Car and Large Heavy Duty Pickup segments, respectively. Also, for the first time, the Equinox took the award in the Compact SUV segment.
In addition, three other Chevrolet models were featured in the top three in their respective segments, including the Tahoe and Suburban in the Large SUV segment and the Silverado in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment.
Chevrolet – Tried & True Reliability
The dependability of all the vehicles featured was based on the amount of reported problems per 100 vehicles from the 2013 model year. In other words, after owning all of the listed Chevy models above for three years, owners found they had experienced fewer problems than owners of other brands. Because reliability goes up every model year, that makes it a great time to shop at Amesbury Chevrolet!
General Motors has announced it would introduce the new Chevrolet Silverado eAssist mild-hybrid technology, allowing customers to get even more mileage out of the already fuel-efficient pickup truck.
This isn’t exactly a Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid, but it definitely suggests one could come in the future. Unlike full-on hybrid systems, eAssist can’t power a vehicle on electricity alone; instead, a single electric motor and 0.45-kWh lithium-ion battery pack work together to take some of the load off the internal combustion engine.
The result should be a 13% improvement in fuel economy, or an extra 2 miles per gallon based on GM’s estimated ratings. In addition, eAssist will add 100 pounds to the Chevrolet Silverado but also increase horsepower by 13 and torque by 44 lb-ft.
For the Amesbury Chevrolet customers who like to buy trucks they can work on themselves, part of the appeal of a Chevrolet Silverado eAssist is that it wouldn’t be as mechanically complicated as a full hybrid, which makes it less likely to run into problems, and easier to repair in the unlikely event that something does go wrong. If you’re interested in looking at the Silverados we have on our lot now (without Chevrolet Silverado eAssist), check them out here.
Driving doesn’t have to be a scary experience. Not when you have active safety technology like the kind found in the latest lineup of Chevrolet vehicles. Chevrolet has recently developed a creative way to advertise that safety technology.
Based around the idea of the audience warning characters in horror movies not to make unsafe decisions, the advertisement shows how the active safety technology featured in the Chevrolet Malibu and Cruze warns drivers of unsafe conditions.
In order to capture the feeling of a horror movie, Chevrolet brought in famed director Sam Raimi, the mind behind the Evil Dead series. We’ve come a long way since the 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88.
“We continue to look for unexpected, attention grabbing ways to tell our story,” said Paul Edwards, US vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “With this trailer, we have thrown a twist into that quintessential, edge of your seat horror movie moment to highlight the comprehensive suite of available active safety technologies in our new Malibu and Cruze.”
Be sure to see the creative trailer when it comes to a theater near you!
When it comes time to service your vehicle, you want to take it to a team that can offer the best repairs and tune-ups available. As helpful as local repair shops can be, when it comes down to it, a dealership repair service may be your best option. Here are 3 reasons to use a dealership repair service.
They’ve Got the Parts
OEM (original equipment manufacturer, like Chevy) parts can often be difficult for service shops to obtain. However, at dealerships, most OEM parts for your vehicle are readily available so that you can get the exact part you need.
They’ve Got Trained Technicians
Before any service member at a dealership begins to work on your vehicle, they have to undergo a rigorous certification process. This way, you know that they know what they are doing!
They’ve Got Top-Notch Facilities
When it comes to technology, dealership service centers are more often than not better equipped than independent shops. The service centers include some of the best technology for vehicle maintenance and repair.
Next time that you need work done on your Chevrolet vehicle, take it to Amesbury Chevrolet’s dealership service center! If you’d like more information, check out our online service department website.
